The Challenge
Wild Mountain was founded in Oakland, California in 1925. It is a family-owned business that provides a guarantee of 100% raw, pure, unblended, unadulterated, unfiltered, and undiluted honey in every jar. The business still runs today in any local grocery market.
Competitors
In the crowded market of branding solutions, numerous brands rely on common patterns such as honeycombs, bees, flowers, nature, organic elements, and bears. They employ these motifs to establish a clear hierarchy and incorporate iconography into their branding strategies.
The Approach
In order to elevate the consumer experience, I embarked on a mission to evaluate the packaging design. My goal was to strike a delicate balance between simplicity and preserving the authentic essence of it being a family-owned business. I was inspired to pay homage to vintage California since the company has been running since 1925. It felt wrong to rebrand the packaging as a modern adaptation since it wouldn't stay true to the brand.
The Packaging
Regarding the packaging design, I intended to maintain symbols of how modern brands portray them while keeping a vintage style. For instance, the language of the packaging revolves around honeycomb shapes, native California poppies representing Oakland, mountains as an homage to the "Wild Mountain" brand, and a radiant sun symbolizing sunny California.
The Colors
The color palette of Wild Mountain is chosen to accentuate its organic identity while ensuring it stands out. Emphasizing earthy tones, the brand creates a visual representation that reinforces that at its core its organic. To complement this earthy color scheme, vibrant and sunny hues, such as honey gold are incorporated. This combination of warm and lively colors further enhances the brand's connection to the natural world and exudes radiant energy.
